In order to earn the CBIS/T-AP credential, applicants must meet all eligibility requirements, gain application approval, and pass two exams:
- Remote proctored objective exam (80% or higher)
- Open-book scenario-based field exam (inpatient, outpatient, post-acute, or academic/pediatric) with an average score of 80% or higher from two graders. Using AI assistance for responses is prohibited.
The Objective Examination
About: Candidates have two hours to complete the examination unless accommodation has been requested under the ADA and approved. There are 135 multiple-choice questions on the examination, all of which are equal in value. Candidates must score 80% or higher on the examination to pass and receive certification.
Proctoring Requirements: The exam is conducted online, available on demand, and proctored using automated facial, screen, and audio capture. There is no advanced scheduling. Candidates will need:
- A computer with a webcam and a microphone
- A smartphone or tablet with a camera and QR scanning capability
- A photo ID (i.e., driver’s license, work badge, etc.)
- Google Chrome (recommended) or Firefox browser
Retakes: CBIS/T-AP Certification includes two attempts of the objective and the scenario examination within the one-year testing session. ACBIS allows for a third attempt of the examinations during the one-year testing session, requiring a 30-day waiting period from the most recent attempt and payment of the third attempt fee of $125. Candidates will need to email ACBIS to receive access to an examination retake. After the one-year testing session or third attempt, candidates must reapply.
The Scenario Exam
This exam is a 51-question, open-book, scenario-based field exam (inpatient, outpatient, post-acute, or academic/pediatric). The scenario is structured to highlight challenges in conducting neurological rehabilitation. Test takers are asked to identify at least three key patient-specific issues for interdisciplinary clinical focus, identify examples of these issues, discuss their importance, and identify strategies to address these issues. Candidates have three hours to complete the examination, unless accommodation has been requested under the ADA and approved, and must reach an average score of 80% or higher from two graders. Using AI assistance for responses is prohibited.
This certification is self-study; please refer to the CBIS/T-AP Candidate Handbook for recommended study preparation timeline and resources.
