Annual Renewal
CBIST Renewal Requirement and Information
The certification is valid for one year and requires an annual renewal. The continuing education requirement is 15 CEUs and 8 training hours. Click here for acceptable types of CE events and audit information.
In order to renew your CBIST, the following is required annually:
- Payment of a $70 certification renewal fee (as of 1 January 2023)
- Submission of the online CBIST application renewal (printed, mailed, or faxed copies will not be accepted)

CBIST Renewal Process
Step One
Log in to the ACBIS Program Portal. This account site is your individual program portal.
Step Two
Under My assignments, select Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainer (CBIST) Certification and continue to the CBIST Renewal step.

Answer all application questions and fill out your continuing education and training hours completed within your renewal validation period. All CEUs and training hours must have been earned within your 1-year renewal period. *Grace period ONLY applies to submission of renewal application and payment. It does not apply to the continuing education events or training.
Pay your renewal fee; applications will not be processed until payment is confirmed. Fees are non-refundable.

Step Three
Once both the renewal application and payment are received, the submitted re-certification application will be reviewed – processing may take up to one week. If approved, an updated CBIST certification will be issued and available via the ACBIS portal under My Certificates.
