Provisional Certified Brain Injury Specialist (PCBIS)

Information & Eligibility

ACBIS offers provisional certification to students pursuing careers in brain injury rehabilitation, providing foundational training to support individuals with acquired or traumatic brain injuries.

Eligibility Requirements

PCBIS candidates are required to be enrolled in a graduate degree program at an accredited university in one of the following areas:

  • Allied health
  • Psychology
  • Pre-medical
  • Special education
  • Neuroscience
  • Behavior analysis

Training

Official ACBIS training is conducted by Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainers (CBIST). Trainings are organized by CBISTs directly, by CBIST University Professors, Brain Injury Association state affiliates, service providers, and Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA). Training is not required to sit for the examination; self-study is an option. For more information, please visit:

Certification Costs & Fees:

  • PCBIS Application: $150
  • PCBIS to CBIS Transition: $100
  • Annual CBIS Renewal: $70

*Application fees are non-refundable unless the applicant does not meet eligibility requirements, in which case a $35.00 cancellation fee will be applied. Application fees are retained for up to one year following payment submission.
