March is Brain Injury Awareness Month

It’s March and time again to celebrate Brain Injury Awareness Month. For 31 days, the Brain Injury Association of America will lead survivors, families, caregivers, advocates, and professionals in the #MoreThanMyBrainInjury awareness campaign. Central to this campaign is the sharing of inspirational and touching videos, photos, and messages on various online platforms and during specially planned virtual events. Read more about how CBIS/CBISTs can help amplify survivors’ voices.

New Retiree Designation Now Available

ACBIS recognizes how hard you work to achieve and maintain the Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) and/or Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainer (CBIST) certification. If you are nearing or have recently retired from active practice as a CBIS or CBIST, you may apply for the new, honorary CBIS-Retired and/or CBIST-Retired designation. Simply log in to the ACBIS Portal and select the CBIS or CBIST Retiree Option. A one-time fee applies. Click here to access the ACBIS portal.
 
New CBIS Training Certificate of Attendance Available for CBISTs
 
Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainers (CBIST) now have the option of providing a new certificate of attendance to participants following a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) training. This certificate can assist participants in acquiring continuing education credit from the CBIS training for other credentials which may accept the CBIS training. Simply download the certificate, complete and sign it, and send it to participants. Download the training certificate from the CBIST Secure Zone.

You can always access your ACBIS certificate(s) in the “My Certificates” tab of our online portal. Save and print your certificate with the click of a button at any time. Log in to the ACBIS Platform, click on “My Assignments,” and look for the “My Certificates” tab at the top of the page.

CBIST Spotlight: Sheldon Herring

Sheldon Herring, Ph.D., CBIST specializes in the neuropsychological sequelae of TBI, stroke, and related neurological disorders. He serves as the Clinical Director of the Outpatient TBI and Young Stroke Programs of Roger C. Peace Rehab Hospital, part of Prisma Health, Greenville SC. Dr. Herring is also the current chair of the Board of Governors for the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS). CBIS Spotlight: Kim Reed

Kim Reed, CTRS, CBIS joined On With Life in 1999. She spent 19 years as a recreation therapist working one-on-one with individuals and families. In 2018, she took on the role of Training and Development Lead and now trains and educates new and existing staff with the same passion. She is a certified recreation therapist and a certified brain injury specialist.
