BIAA, NASHIA, and NABIS Announce Landmark Collaboration on an Emotional Health Initiative

A three-year initiative funded by The Moody Endowment aims to help advance brain health, emotional well-being, and living well after brain injury.

Emotional health challenges are among the most common and lasting effects of brain injury.

Adults and children with a history of brain injury face a higher risk of chronic behavioral health conditions, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance use disorder. And because emotional health challenges don’t show up at a consistent point during recovery from brain injury, there’s no single intervention that can address them.

That’s why we’re proud to announce the launch of A National Initiative to Advance Brain Health, Emotional Well-Being, and Living Well After Brain Injury, a three-year collaboration from the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA), the National Association of State Head Injury Administrators, and the North American Brain Injury Society (NABIS).

This initiative unites our organizations in the shared goal of preventing and addressing emotional health challenges for people living with brain injury and their caregivers. The initiative covers four distinct touchpoints—prevention, identification, clinical response, and connection to services—to build scalable, integrated strategies to improve emotional health after brain injury.

The Moody Endowment provided funding for the initiative, which is aligned with their goals of advancing brain injury research and developing life-changing rehabilitation activities.

“The Moody Endowment is more than simply a funder of this critical project,” said Rick Willis, President and CEO of BIAA. “They are a valued partner whose expertise and involvement in brain injury research and rehabilitation has informed our approach to the initiative.”
