Accommodating Brain Injury in Trauma-Informed Care to Address the Diverse Needs of Domestic Violence Survivors
September 20, 2023
Though the head and airways are the most common target of physical attack in domestic violence (DV), trauma-informed care approaches have not historically acknowledged or addressed brain injury as central to many survivors' experiences and cause of current struggles, including engaging life-promoting safety and health services. Community-partnered research in Ohio led to the discovery that probable brain injury, from concurrent and repeated head trauma and strangulation, was common among service-seeking DV survivors, yet was unrecognized by providers. In this Mitch Rosenthall Research webinar, Julianna Nemeth, Ph.D. will discuss the CARE (Connect, Acknowledge, Respond, Evaluate) approach to helping DV survivors.
