Mary E. Shaughnessy
Mary Shaughnessy is a senior healthcare financial leader with expertise in developing strategic initiatives supported by financial analysis.
She worked for Mass General Brigham for 21 years in a variety of roles. She began her career at the corporate level, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, a role she would eventually assume. Her role was to assist in the creation of a system-level budget, which included reaching an agreement on projected revenue rates, compensation, and supply chain inflation. She helped formulate a five-year model called the Financial Framework, which became a critical strategic/financial planning tool for the System.
She also served as the Chief Financial Officer for the Post-Acute Division of the Spaulding Network and managed the finances for the construction of a new hospital, located in Boston. Following that position, she assumed the role of Interim CFO for the South Shore Health System, which is jointly affiliated with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Treatment Center.
For the last three years, she has taught an Advanced Finance and Planning in Healthcare Organization course as part of the Master of Science in Clinical Service Operations at the Harvard Medical School.
She has extensive experience in both public and private sectors, and a long and successful history of applying creative solutions to improve processes and to maximize efficiency.
