National Concussion Awareness Day is recognized each year on the third Friday of September. This year, National Concussion Awareness Day will be held on September 19, and we are raising awareness that concussion is a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Earlier this year, we found through a public opinion survey that 8 in 10 people did not realize that concussion was a TBI.

There are many ways you can get involved to help spread awareness of brain injury and join our cause. Pick something below and get involved!

Become a Concussion Awareness Now Champion: As a first step, be sure you sign up as a Concussion Awareness Now Champion to get access to the latest news, updates, tools and resources. Invite your friends, family, and colleagues to do the same!

Register for Our Webinar: In the leadup to National Concussion Awareness Day, Concussion Awareness Now (CAN) will host a free webinar titled “Is Concussion a Brain Injury?” on Tuesday, September 9 at 2 p.m. ET. Hear from a panel including concussion survivors and advocates who will answer this question and shed light on the seriousness of concussions.

Start the Conversation Online: CAN has several resources for sharing information about the seriousness of concussions and the importance of preventing them. Download social media posts, PSA videos, and more, then share them on your own pages to start the conversation with your friends and family.

Spread the Word Offline: CAN’s efforts around starting the concussion conversation include spreading the word offline, too! Hang posters or leave resources in community settings. This National Concussion Awareness Day, consider hosting an in-person event or activity with the help of CAN’s Event Planning Guide

Earn Your Concussion Certificate: In honor of National Concussion Awareness Day on September 19, we’re offering a 19 percent discount on our concussion certificate program throughout the month of September. This virtual course is designed for healthcare professionals who want to enhance their understanding of concussion-related issues and identify core topics associated with concussion identification, treatment, and management. Use the code “CAN-COURSE” when you register. This offer ends September 30, so don’t miss out!

The Brain Injury Association of America is proud to serve as co-chair of the CAN coalition. We hope you will join us in participating in the National Concussion Awareness Day campaign.
