Brain Injury Association of America Announces New Edition of the Essential Brain Injury Guide

The Brain Injury Association of America is releasing a new edition of its Essential Brain Injury Guide (EBIG). The EBIG 6.0 contains updated information about brain injury, the neurological disease process, and brain injury treatment and rehabilitation.

The Essential Brain Injury Guide is published by the Brain Injury Association of America’s Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists to increase understanding of brain injury and to improve access to high quality care. While the Guide serves as a reference tool for multi-disciplinary topics in brain injury rehabilitation, many people use it in preparation for the examination that is part of the process to become a Certified Brain Injury Specialist.

“The Essential Brain Injury Guide is an authoritative source of information on brain injury that makes the latest evidence readily accessible to clinicians, students, and faculty alike,” said Dr. John Corrigan, the Brain Injury Association of America’s national research director.

The Essential Brain Injury Guide has been the go-to textbook and reference for brain injury professionals for more than 15 years, and is a crucial tool for professionals preparing for certification through the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS). The new edition of the EBIG has been updated to benefit prospective Certified Brain Injury Specialists with a reorganized structure, making for a better flow of information as well as a more user-friendly study tool for those preparing to take the ACBIS exam.

The Essential Brain Injury Guide 6.0 features updated references, resources, and statistics that reflect the latest in brain injury research. The EBIG 6.0 features updates about:

  • Sex and Gender
  • Social Determinants of Health
  • Substance Use
  • Return to Work
  • And more

“Brain injury is a complex topic with standards of care that are changing to better meet the needs of people with brain injury,” said Rick Willis, President and CEO of the Brain Injury Association of America. “The Essential Brain Injury Guide 6.0 reflects the latest expert information in this evolving space.”
