Brain Injury Association of America Announces New Certificate Course for Concussions

Every nine seconds, someone in the United States experiences a brain injury, and over 75 percent of those brain injuries are categorized as a concussion.

As a leading authority in brain injury education, the Brain Injury Association of America’s Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS) recognizes the critical need for specialized training in concussion care. With the prevalence of concussions across various age groups and activities, there is a growing demand for knowledgeable professionals who can effectively assess, treat, and support individuals with concussions.

Designed for healthcare professionals seeking to enhance their foundational understanding of concussion-related issues, the ACBIS Understanding Concussion: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment Approaches Certificate Course offers an overview of concussion symptoms, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment approaches. It identifies core topics associated with the identification, treatment approaches, and management of concussion, including:

  • Basic neuroanatomy
  • Biomechanics of injury
  • Concussion basics
  • Risk factors
  • Prevention
  • Evaluation and assessment practices
  • Post-acute and chronic treatment approaches
  • Individual recovery and return to work/school
  • Programmatic concussion care

Those who successfully complete the course and assessment will earn five (5) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from ACBIS. Additionally, the American Academy for Family Physicians (AAFP) has reviewed Understanding Concussion: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment Approaches and deemed it acceptable for up to 5.00 Enduring Materials, Self-Study AAFP Elective credit(s). Term of Approval is from 06/01/2024 to 06/01/2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
