BIAA Honors National Concussion Awareness Day
September 19, 2023
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 75% of the 2.8 million traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) occurring each year are concussions, making it the most commonly diagnosed type of TBI.
Last week, the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) recognized National Concussion Awareness Day by elevating this important issue and giving a platform to those in the community pushing for change.
If you missed out on any of our activities last week, don’t worry. You can still get involved. Read on to learn more about ways you can help support concussion awareness.
- Instagram Live event – BIAA’s Director of Consumer Services, Greg Ayotte, hosted an Instagram Live with Brooke Mills, the founder of Concussion Awareness Day. Together, they discussed why it’s important to take concussions seriously, how to help spread awareness, and more. Watch the recording here.
- Concussion Awareness Now’s #MelonPledge – Concussion Awareness Now, the public awareness organization that BIAA co-founded with Abbott, kicked off its newest campaign called the #MelonPledge. By taking the pledge, individuals commit to taking concussions seriously in themselves and others, and to share that they have taken the pledge on social media. Learn more about the #MelonPledge here.
- Resource promotion – Throughout the week leading up to Concussion Awareness Day, BIAA circulated resources to help with concussion awareness and recovery. Visit our Concussion Information Center to see what resources we offer.
- Finding Support When Your Concussion Symptoms Persist Webinar – Concussions can cause both short- and long-term complications in the life of the survivor. Our upcoming webinar on November 16, Finding Support When Your Concussion Symptoms Persist, may be able to help. Be sure to register here.
