Michael Kaplen is a Professorial Lecturer in Law at the George Washington University Law School teaching the only course in traumatic brain injury law in the United States. He is past chair of the New York State Traumatic Brain Injury Services Coordinating Council and three-term past president of the Brain Injury Association of New York State. Mr. Kaplen is Board Certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and Board Certified in Professional Liability-Medical Malpractice by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys.
 
Shana De Caro is an Officer and member of the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Association of America. She is Vice President of the American Academy of Brain Injury Attorneys. She is the Secretary and a trustee of the Civil Justice Foundation. Ms. De Caro is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, Trial Lawyer Honorary Society and serves as a member of the Advisory Board, Acquired Brain Injury Program of The George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development.

De Caro & Kaplen, LLP is the only law firm in the United States with both partners serving as chair of the American Association for Justice, Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group, a group of attorneys representing brain injury victims throughout the United States. De Caro and Kaplen are recognized as New York Super Lawyers and Top 100 Trial Lawyers in New York State by the American Association of Trial Lawyers.
