Improving Outcomes for Adults through Meaningful Activity and Community Integration following Traumatic Brain Injury
Traumatic brain injury may result in a decrease in community integration, including meaningful employment, social participation, home management, and leisure pursuits. In this evidence-based clinical webinar, Dr. Steven Wheeler will explore factors impacting successful and satisfying community participation and identify person-centered intervention approaches to support functional independence. Emphasis will be placed on the role of executive cognitive functions in TBI recovery.

Speaker:
Steven Wheeler, PhD, OTR/L, CBIS, FAOTA, serves as Chair of the Department of Communication Disorders and Occupational Therapy at the University of Arkansas. Over his career as an occupational therapist, he has been involved in TBI-related clinical work, teaching, research, and service. He has led numerous TBI service and research initiatives, including the West Virginia TBI State Program, which seeks to improve the lives of TBI survivors and caregivers through education, advocacy, and community outreach. He has conducted TBI-related presentations nationally and internationally and has authored numerous publications, including co-authoring the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Occupational Therapy Practice Guidelines for Adults with Traumatic Brain Injury.
