In April 2021 I was cycling in San Diego and hit from behind by an SUV going over 40mph. It drove away. My skull cracked open. I was unconscious. The ambulance came and I had a Glasgow Coma Scale of 3. Doctors informed my family I would not survive. Once out of the coma, they discovered I had acquired Hypothyroid and Hydrocephalus, and now have a VP Shunt for life. I spent five months in the hospital until I was discharged. Doctors said I would always need a wheelchair, feeding tubes, and an at-home nurse. Instead, I have healed miraculously.
Amazingly, the hit-and-run driver was later found! The criminal sentencing recently ended and civil trial occurs in a few months.
Prior to this incident, I was a Product Owner managing web developers at the largest non-military credit union in the US, into backcountry skiing, kitesurfing, tech startups, mountaineering, paddle boarding, traveling, and living on a boat. I hope to find a Neuroscientist who wants to research why I’ve healed so uncommonly well, so we can help others. Until that occurs, I contribute my success to my history of Neuroplasticity.
Thus far I’ve been interviewed by or given presentations to:
- NINDS / NIH Annual TBI Conference
- National Bike Summit in DC
- Presentation to the assistants to the co-founders of the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force
- Voices of Brain Injury
- North Dakota Brain Injury Network
- World Day of Remembrance

I used to be an actor, musician, voice over artist, produced commercials, and was a radio personality.
Thanks to this life-changing situation, I was introduced to Adaptive Sports. This past year, I created a website that is a filterable directory of Adaptive Sports & Arts across the US and Canada: Adapt2Play.org
