Kara’s Story

March 30, 2018

I was a completely normal kid. I played soccer and had fun doing art projects! I had migraines and had to stay in bed for a day and a half to get better. We always went to the doctor when this happened and were told to go home, stay away from different foods and get some rest. It took the doctors 6 years to get me under any scan. I had a headache for a week and my mom finally put her for down to my doctor and he sent me to get a cat scan. Half way through the cat scan they pulled me out and said “You are the first in line for an MRI! Go now!” The MRI showed a first size tumor under my brain! This was on the day before Thanksgiving. I came home for dinner that day with an iv in my arm and went in for surgery the day after! I spent about a month out of school and was back! People do not know how to deal with a kiss who has had brain surgery! My hair was a mess so I had to wear a bandana to school. It was funny to take it off and show people what I had been through. They usually said it was ok for me to wear a bandana! My second surgery and radiation hit me hard! The right side of my body doesn’t work the way it used to and my nose doesn’t smell anything ever! The only problem is that I look like a normal person. I look too normal to have been through 2 brain surgeries! It has been almost 17 years since my first surgery!
