How TBI changed everything.
Hi there, I am a daughter of a TBI survivor. My father at the time 51 yrs. was victim to an assault on his own business grounds (Feb 2017). The injury he sustained caused him to acquire a TBI with a few blows to the head which also triggered seizure activity during the time of the injury. To assist with pressures in the brain they had to do emergency surgery & remove the right side bone flap. A shunt was also required to keep fluid levels in the ventricles at bay. He was close to two months out cold completely until he started to wake up from the semi coma he was in. Hours turned into days and days turn into weeks and then month after month came for him to recover from it all. He went from rehab facility to another and another. It was overwhelming. They replaced his bone flap back in July 2017 & it was his own bone too! That surgery went well and he took off from there in walking, eating, talking & being independent & living at home comfortably. He ended up having a little set back in October 2017 & the bone flap was contaminated with MRSA. Unfortunately another surgery took place to remove the bone. After that surgery took place he had a series of seizure activity which pushed him back into coma status. He woke up little by little & since has been placed back into rehab services to walk, talk and eat again. Since Octobers 2017 happenings, we await another surgery in March 2018 for artificial bone flap. Before all this my dad was a very busy successful business man with his Tire Shop of about 25 years old of running. Determined, smart and knew how to work well with people. He is a father to 6 children total. There is a big family dynamic. He is grandfather to 4 little ones he adores. This whole process has not been pleasant or an easy one either. I truly miss my dad & all the interesting topics we use to talk about and seeing him work, run his business and our eating outings. I have high hopes for this tire man & all others as well going through this experience!
