Hope

March 6, 2018

I would like to share what happened to me… In August of last year, I was in a bad motor vehicle accident wherein I sustained a serious traumatic brain injury and diffuse axonal injury. My doctors initially told my family that I would be an incapacitated person for the rest of my life. To this day, I have no recollection of the accident, a few hours before, and three weeks afterward. After I was discharged home from the hospital, I had vigorous therapies several times each week. They included, occupational, speech, and physical therapy. I tried my hardest to regain my physical strength, ability to balance, and walk successfully. I also tried to do as well as I could in occupational and speech therapy. I really wanted to get better so I could finish my last semester of nursing school. Truthfully, getting better has not been easy, but I pushed myself to get as close to how I was before my accident. I will forever be grateful to the EMTs, doctors, nurses, therapists, and UAPs that took care of me and helped me to recover. About five months after my accident, I was able to return to nursing school. I finished my last semester, and graduated last week. I am so proud of myself and happy that I have done so well with my recovery thus far. My only wish is that people could take some sort of inspiration away from my story.

Thank you, for listening.
