National Concussion Awareness Day is September 19 this year, and we are raising awareness that concussion is a brain injury.

Caring for the Caregivers of People with Brain Injury: Making it E.A.S.I.E.R.

In this caregiver webinar, Mark Bayley and Judy Gargaro will review the current research literature examining the impact of caregiving on the health of caregivers and interventions designed for caregivers. Findings from a recent collaborative project that codesigned solutions to better support the caregivers of people with brain injury will be discussed. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and review online resources. Next steps for implementing the E.A.S.I.E.R. recommendations will also be discussed.

On Friday, October 10, the Brain Injury Association of America, Texas Chapter (BIAA-TX), will host its inaugural Luminary of the Year Gala—a night to celebrate leadership, innovation, and impact in the field of brain injury. We are proud to honor Cindy Ivanhoe, MD, as our first Luminary of the Year. Dr. Ivanhoe has dedicated her career to advancing care for individuals with acquired brain injuries and complex neurorehabilitation needs. She currently leads the SPASM Program at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston and serves as Clinical Professor at McGovern Medical School.

Brain Injury Fundamentals Live Virtual Training

Brain Injury Fundamentals is a foundational eight-hour training and certificate program developed by experienced clinicians and rehabilitation professionals. It is designed for individuals who support people with brain injuries, including non-licensed direct care staff, facility personnel, family members, first responders, and other community members. The course provides essential knowledge on topics such as brain function, types of injury, behavioral and medical considerations, and strategies for providing effective care and support. No prerequisites required.
