Home-Based Strategies to Support Cognition after Brain Injury

Home and activity modifications can provide support for those with cognitive impairments as a result of their brain injury. In this caregiver webinar, Briana Elson, MS, OTR/L, BCPR, CBIS, will review current literature and evidence-based interventions that facilitate success during activities of daily living to help promote independence. Learn ways to optimize outcomes in the home setting to increase participation and quality of life.
Session Objectives:
- Discuss the current literature regarding evidence-based strategies to support those with cognitive impairments in the home setting.
- Describe at least two interventions that support independent living and community re-entry for those living with cognitive impairments.
- Explain how home or activity modifications can promote success for those with cognitive impairments after brain injury.
Presenter:
Briana Elson, MS, OTR/L, BCPR, CBIS, is AOTA fellowship trained in Neurologic Occupational Therapy from Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville, FL. She received her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at Thomas Jefferson University and has experience in various settings, including neuro ICU, IRF, SNF, and OP. She received her Board Certification in Physical Rehabilitation (BCPR) through AOTA and is also a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) through the Brain Injury Association of America. She is the Program Coordinator for the Brooks Clinical Practice Enhancement Program, primary OT Fellowship Faculty mentor on the Brain Injury unit. She maintains a clinical caseload at the Brooks Center for Low Vision, treating clients after brain injury and stroke.
