Every day is a #TBI Survival Struggle

I suffered a severe traumatic brain injury August 17, 2014 at the hands of a drunk driver (twice the legal limit) in a pickup truck! My family and I were leaving a picnic on a Sunday afternoon when my life as I knew it changed forever. I do not recall the crash, however, I’m told that the drunk driver fled the scene, didn’t report the crash and yet wasn’t charged with it by the Roxbury Township Police Department! I was left unconscious, bleeding profusely from an open head wound on the left side of my forehead and had countless cuts, bruises, shattered glass all over my body. My husband told me that I was trapped in the car since the driver door had caved in… the fire department had to cut the door with the “jaws of life”! I was then airlifted to Morristown Medical Center, where a plastic surgeon had to be consulted to close the head wound once I was stabilized. Since the crash I’ve had double/blurry vision, speech, walking, balance, vestibular issues; along with memory loss, migraines and cognitive impairment! My life has changed so drastically that I still haven’t come to terms with all of it! I’ve had several surgeries and countless rehabilitation sessions with very little to no relief! I’ve tried non-traditional treatments as well! I’m told that time and rest is needed for recovery… but it’s kinda hard to do when you’re still raising children and being a wife, daughter, sister, friend, etc. This debilitating injury has stripped me of my independence, work, driving and emotional stability! It’s been very hard to say the very least… I just keep trusting in God’s plan for me, since he kept me alive!
